Heritage Backpack

The vision behind the Heritage Backpack draws from the early 2000s era of Japanese racing culture — specifically the iconic race suits of Keiichi Tsuchiya and Nobuteru Taniguchi. Beyond their gear, it was their creativity, precision, and passion for motorsports that inspired us to design a backpack capturing that same spirit.
Built as a versatile camera and travel pack, the Heritage Backpack blends function with storytelling. Its vintage diamond-stitched interior is inspired by classic race suit padding, crafted in heavy cotton canvas for a durable, nostalgic feel. Carefully placed patches pay homage to JDM race suit aesthetics — each one rooted in Japanese car culture — while the grey and black color blocking delivers a balanced, motorsport-inspired palette.
To bring in that Projectwerks signature edge, we incorporated bold blackletter typography for a streetwear twist that bridges track heritage with modern design. But this bag isn’t just about looks — it’s built for utility. The modular interior system allows for customizable compartments, adapting easily for cameras, travel essentials, or everyday carry.
The Heritage Backpack stands as more than a concept — it’s a statement piece that celebrates the influence of early Japanese car culture and the creativity it continues to inspire in enthusiasts worldwide.

From the very beginning, we dove deep into researching how race suits were constructed — studying the gear worn by Japan’s time attack drivers. That exploration helped us develop fabrications and materials that capture the same spirit and authenticity found in their uniforms. This project became a bridge between fashion and motorsport, proving that we can create something that not only looks good but is truly driven by passion.
The backpack’s heavy cotton canvas construction nods to the durable, tactile feel of vintage race suits, giving it both structure and nostalgia. Every detail was considered — from premium YKK zippers finished with a vintage treatment to patch placement and tonal stitching — all working together to reflect the craftsmanship behind the build.
The artwork blends elements of Japanese car culture with Projectwerks’ “Pure Mastery”
graphics — a slogan we live by and a statement of the craft we continue to refine.

From concept to final stitch, this is a fully custom cut-and-sewn build, crafted from the ground up with precision and intent. Every detail — from the structure to the stitching — reflects our commitment to design and function. The Heritage Backpack stands as a statement of style and substance, honoring the legacy of car culture while embodying the fit and attitude of modern streetwear.
Every stitch tells a story...
